What is DALOC?

DnD Adventurer's League Online collective was inspired by a Pathfinder Society Google Groups that helped facilitate the organizing of Pathfinder Society organized play online.  GM (Gamemasters) start a thread, advertising games they were about to run and state the various details player's would want to know before they signed up, such as:

  1. What the scenario was, by name and scenario number.
  2. What the level range was.
  3. What time it would start (PFS usually runs 4-5 hours).
  4. What which VTT they would use, and if necessary which voice communication protocol (usually Google Hangouts, Skype, Ventrillo, or Teamspeak).
  5. How many player slots were available.
Then players, who would either check the group through a web browser or respond directly from their email, would respond to the thread if they had questions or wanted to sign up.

The standard practice was to have 5-6 slots and 1-3 alternative slots in case players in the first 5-6 slots didn't show up, which happens pretty often.  So ultimately a game would get filled with players with the right class levels, and sometimes there may be an alternative or 2 that didn't get to play.

Our hope for DALOC is that there will be enough DMs to run games for Dungeons and Dragons players that sign up.  As Wizards of the Coasts develops their organized play program, which is called Adventurer's league, this will help facilitate how players can move in and out games, while using the same character, and play as much of a particular season or campaign as they want.

Organized play can be a great way to experience a living world, and it can really help put everyone on the same page, even though they may not be playing with the same people every week.  DALOC hopes to help DMs and players organize themselves into games, especially those that don't have access to a local gaming shop that runs games.
