For New Members!

This group is dedicated to playing Dungeons and Dragons Adventurer's League organized play campaign online via virtual tabletops (VTT). The Online Collective is a place for people who have difficulty finding local games or prefer online gaming.

Once you've read this over, join our games at DnD Adventurers League Online Collective

What is the Adventurer's League?

The D&D Adventurers League is an ongoing official organized play campaign for Dungeons & Dragons. It uses the fifth edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules, and features the Forgotten Realms setting. You can play D&D Adventurers League games at any place that features adventures bearing the D&D Adventurers League logo or online. You can create a character and bring that character to games anywhere D&D Adventurers League is supported.

Most D&D Adventurers League games are public, in-person play events. Typical venues for these events are game and hobby stores, conventions, and public-accessible game day events, but this group will be used to organize online play.

What Do I Need to Play?

In order to participate in the D&D Adventurer's League organized play online, you’ll need a copy of the Basic Rules, a character sheet, a computer capable of running a virtual tabletop and a mic or headset.

You will not need a DCI number until you take your character to play at an in-store event or convention.

You’ll need to make sure that your character uses only material that has been approved for organized play. More info will be put here once it is released.

You'll need to find a thread where a DM is offering a game in a time slot that works for you and sign up FAST. Some signups will involve posts in the thread on the collective, while others will involve signing up on an external site like Warhorn. When signing up players should include their class, level, pathfinder society number, a link to an electronic version of your character sheet, and an icon/token for their character if necessary for the program.

You'll need to have roughly 1-3 hours free to commit to the game (time for each adventure will vary, but typically 2 hours). Please check to game description to find out exactly how much time the DM needs to run the adventure, and be sure to be available for the entire time when you sign up.

What Do I Need to GM?

You'll need everything that a player would need, a general knowledge of the rules of the game, and a copy of Adventure that has been approved for Adventurer's League play.

You'll need to build that adventure into a playable format including maps and icons for antagonists within a VTT of your choice.

You'll need to test well ahead of time that a player is able to connect to your machine for the game you intend to host. Port forwarding and firewall rules have been a nasty surprise at the last minute for many first time online GMs.

You'll need to post a new thread to the group detailing the scenario, date, time and software you will be using for the VTT and chat.

You may need some means of sending each player a signed copy of his/her character's adventure log for the game you have hosted. Typically DMs fill out the sheets locally, scan them and email the sheet to each player. As long as the sheet has your initials in the appropriate places and the players get a copy you can arrange that in any way that works for you.

Anything Special I Should Know About This Mailing List?

We have a couple rules to make the mailing list run smoothly. They will be posted shortly. Please take a moment and look them over before posting. Also, your first post will be moderated to make sure that you're not a spam bot. If you don't see your post right away, that's okay! This list is moderated by a human being who isn't always online. He will get to your post as soon as he is able.

Ideally before you post, consider that many people will choose to have posts sent directly to their email. So please, keep this is mind, and really only DM's that are trying to recruit players should post. If you are trying to find a game as a player, make sure there isn't already a thread started for that time frame and then please use that thread. Pickup games are not easy to organize, so if your really looking to play, you should try DMing.

Happy Hunting!
